Work on community content as easily as you do with your local files
The Edit In Place feature allows team members to collaboratively author, edit, and manage files on your community just as easily as local files.
Advantages of Edit In Place:
- Simplicity: Quantum reduction in the number of “user clicks” – from more than 10 to just 1
- Reduction of potential error: Files are edited at the same location (without downloading) virtually eliminating versioning errors. Older versions of files are archived as well
- Improved team collaboration: Document co-authoring is easier and leads to more current updates
How Edit In Place Works
- Simply click the Edit action under a file. The document opens within an application, such as Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. After editing, save the file directly from the application back to where you opened it from.
- Edit documents on Portal folders with confidence. File Locking ensures that two users do not edit the same document at the same time. When a user attempts to open a presentation that is being edited by a co-worker, a warning message will indicate that the file is open for update. The user can still open a “Read-Only” copy.
- You can also browse the portal (your folders or folders of the groups you belong to) just like you would browse a network drive and move files to or from your PC.
- Qontext implements Edit In Place using the WebDAV (Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning) protocol.
