New hire ramp-up

According to a recent IDC study, businesses in the US and UK lose an estimated $37 billion every year because employees do not fully understand their jobs.

Effective employee onboarding drives a virtuous cycle. It makes new hires feel welcome in the organization, gives them confidence and the resources to make an impact, and helps the organization meet its strategic business goals. A strong culture of employee onboarding empowers the individual employee to give their best to the organization. It:

  • Reduces on-the-job learning costs
  • Increases productivity of new employees, and co-workers and supervisors (who do not need to spend time training new employees)
  • Increases employee confidence and morale and reduces attrition

How Qontext Helps

Qontext’s Social Intranet features are designed to heighten employee engagement and achieve results through enhanced participation, self-expression, collective intelligence, and conversations. It:

  • Structures information according to how people use it (and not according to the organization chart)
  • Follows a role-based personalization approach that brings the information in the portal to users (than force users to navigate maze-like spaces to locate information)

Key stakeholders in the organization can use Qontext to on-board and deeply engage with employees.

  • Executive management can use Qontext to cascade the vision, mission, and business objectives to new hires and employees, empower bottom-up communication and sharing, and drive innovation.
  • Human Resources can use Qontext to facilitate faster integration of new hires by sharing onboarding resources, and training material.
  • Managers and Supervisors can use Qontext to build communities of practice that share content, expertise, and learning on specific areas of interest to build skills and competencies. They can also use Qontext to guide and support new hires in task management, and replace micro-managing with micro messaging.
  • New hires and employees can use Qontext to share and converse with their managers and peers, learn beyond the onboarding or training sessions, showcase their existing and newly-acquired skills and competencies and achieve better work-life-integration.

Use Qontext to:

  • Create a ‘ramp-up’ group and add all new hires. All new hires “watch” the ramp-up group. Post information on the company’s mission, vision, and values in the group for new hires to better understand the company objectives. Tag to facilitate mining for future use.
  • Prioritize and upload forms that need to be filled up as documents in the ramp-up group. New hires can fill the forms using the edit-in-place feature (without downloading the forms to their personal computers). Use the annotate feature to request for changes or to approve the filled-in forms.
  • Post job descriptions and other relevant documents (tagged) to the group. Create and upload a FAQs document on the group to answer common new-hire questions.
  • Assign a mentor to the new hire. Have the mentor and the new hire watch each other and use the discussion feature to privately discuss issues.
  • Collect feedback and opinions on issues related to work, employee benefits etc. using polls and surveys.
